The sight of a Graham Cracker Pie Crust just screams to me … fill me with a mixture of sweet, velvety creaminess! Yes, that excites me a lot. But, before we can get to the creamy goodness of pie filling, we need the base for it to sit in. And this one is buttery, easy and simply fabulous.
My mom was a great pie maker. One of the first pies she taught me to make involved a graham cracker pie crust. I don’t know which I was more excited about … the pie filling or the buttery richness of the graham cracker crust it sat in. Admittedly, I have used both store-bought graham cracker crusts and homemade graham cracker crusts for pies. While the store-bought crust is perfectly fine for a quick and tasty pie, this homemade version offers a rich buttery flavor that will bring your whole pie up a level in tastiness.
I don’t have a food processor. Yes, you can all feel sorry for me now. But, that doesn’t stop me from ‘processing’ my graham crackers into crumbs. All it takes is a gallon-sized zip baggie and a rolling pin. To make 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs, you will need about nine whole graham crackers. Just place them in the baggie, zip it shut, and crush with the rolling pin. Surprisingly easy and a fun task for children.
Butter makes everything better, right? Yes, absolutely it does. The 6 Tablespoons of melted lusciousness in this recipe is what gives this graham cracker pie crust its melt-in-your-mouth buttery rich flavor.
The graham cracker crumb mixture should be moist enough with the melted butter so that they hold together when pressed between your fingers, but not so saturated that they look drenched.
Not only is this recipe easy, but it is delicious too and offers a great base for your pie. So, the only question left is … what will you fill your Buttery Graham Cracker Pie Crust with?
- 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs or nine whole graham crackers
- ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 6 Tablespoons butter, melted
